I’m writing to you today to update you on a message we sent last week regarding Spring 2020 Commencement.

I know it was disappointing for everyone to hear we will have to make changes to Commencement as it was to be one of the most important days in the lives of the class of 2020. However, I want to clarify for everyone that these ceremonies will be rescheduled when we can ensure the safety of our graduates and their families from the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

At this time, it is not possible for us to have firm plans in place for these events. However, one thing is for sure: this rescheduling of Commencement does not change the scheduling for the awarding of degrees. Upon the completion of all academic program and graduation requirements, and certification by the University Registrar, graduates will be awarded their degrees. More details will be released as information becomes available.

We are as disappointed as you to have to make changes to this year’s ceremonies, but my promise to you is that we will honor the achievements of the class of 2020 when the time is right for such a celebration.

I look forward to sharing more information on our plans with you soon. As always, thank you for your continued commitment to the University of West Georgia as the students, faculty, and staff who make this university such an incredible place.
