International Graduate Admissions
An international student is a student on a J-1 or F-1 visa who is not a citizen of, a permanent resident of, or a refugee in the United States of America.

Graduate Program Department Deadlines: Your graduate program department may have a different deadline than the ones for International Admissions listed above. Please note that you will be required to submit all documentation prior to the earliest deadline; whether this is the International Admissions deadline listed above, or the department's deadline for your specific graduate program. Please be sure to check with your program department directly regarding any deadlines they may have.

The graduate programs at the University of West Georgia set their own requirements needed for admission. As such, please review the admission information listed on the Program Page of the program to which you intend to apply.

College Transcripts
Submit official transcripts from each college or university you have attended with a valid Foreign Credential Evaluation for all course work not awarded by a recognized institution holding United States accreditation. The evaluation service of your choice must belong to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc (AICE). Common providers under these umbrella organization are World Education Service (WES) or Josef Silny and Associates or Spantran. All evaluations must be course-by-course, with a GPA conversion.
- Applicants to the College of Education must have their evaluation completed by one of the 5 approved agencies listed on the Georgia Professional Standards Commission website.
- Evaluations from any other agency will not be accepted and will result in denial of admission to the College of Education.
English Proficiency
All students must meet West Georgia’s English Language Proficiency requirement.
- For those whose first language is English, the requirement can be waived based on completion of a degree taught in the English language from an English-based educational system (USA, Canada, UK, Australia, etc...).
- For others, proof of English proficiency is required, and a number of exams are acceptable. For most students, the TOEFL or IELTS exams are the most common with the following score requirements:

Tuition & Funding
Tuition and fees are based on the number of credit hours a student is enrolled each semester. For graduate international students, a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester is required for immigration compliance. Students are able to take up to 21 credit hours per semester without special permission.

International Tuition & Fees
Based on Fall 2020 - Summer 2021 rates approved by the University System of Georgia.
International Students are not eligible for "in-state" tuition without a waiver, scholarship, or assistantship and therefore pay "out-of-state" tuition as do U.S. students from outside the state of Georgia.
- Tuition: the cost for academic credits and instruction: 9 hours per semester: $8,415
- Fees: the cost for auxiliary services and university facilities: cost per semester: $1,075
- Total Cost per Semester: $9,490

Submit your application for admission online and send the all supporting documents (application fee, transcripts, test scores and financial guarantee) to:
Submit Non-Refundable Fee
If you did not submit your application fee with your admission application, you may make your payment through MyUWG or submit payment in the form of a check or money order drawn on a U.S. Banking Affiliate and made payable to the University of West Georgia. Do not send cash or international postal money orders. Application fees cannot be waived.
Request Official Transcripts
Official transcripts are certified copies of official documents from each secondary school, college, university and/or technical schools attended. Records must include courses completed, grades or marks earned, and certificates or degrees awarded. Include a certified English translation of all documents not written in English.
Academic credentials must be evaluated by an evaluator in the Naces or AICE association with what we aready have:
Upon graduation or completion of the semester, request that a final transcript be sent directly to UWG to determine final admission status. If your school(s) cannot send them directly to UWG, you may send them making sure they meet one of the following requirements:
- Submit official transcripts from each college or university you have attended. Foreign Credential Evaluation for all course work that is not awarded by a recognized institution holding United States accreditation. The evaluation service utilized must belong to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), or the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE), such as the World Education Service (WES), Josef Silny and Associates, or Spantran. All evaluations must be course-by-course, with GPA conversion.
- Students applying to the College of Education must have their evaluation completed by Josef Silny & Associates, Inc. or Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. Failing to have an evaluation from one of these two agencies will result in the applicant being denied admission to the College of Education.
- Photocopies of academic credentials that have been verified as true copies of the original by a responsible official of the institution attended or by an educational representative of the country’s government or embassy. Each page must bear the verifying official’s signature and stamp.
- Photocopies of international academic credentials on file with the registrar of an institution you previously attended in the U.S.
- Photocopies of academic credentials that have been certified by a recognized international educational organization, such as the U.S. Educational Foundation, AMIDEAST or the Institute for International Education.
For Schools Outside the USA
- Original academic credentials issued by the registrar of the institution attended, bearing the original raised or colored seal of the institution and the signature of the institution’s registrar, academic official or recognized international organization.
- Academic credentials must be evaluated by an evaluator in the NACES or AICE association.
Note: Any document UWG receives becomes property of UWG and will not be returned to you.
Photocopies certified by a notary public are not official. Scanned copies are also not accepted in lieu of original official academic documents.
All international transcripts must be submitted in the original language accompanied by an official English translation. Translations must be literal, complete versions of the originals and must be translated by a university, government official or official translation service. You may not complete your own translation.
You must have one set of official transcripts from every high school, college and university from which you earned a high school diploma sent to UWG.

Submit Financial Guarantee
This statement and the required supporting financial documents must be on file before an I-20/DS-2019 can be issued. Two sets of supporting documents should be obtained:
One set will be sent to the International Student Admissions & Programs Office and will become part of your permanent file. Photocopies, faxes and scans are accepted.
The other set should be issued to the U.S. Embassy or Consultant. Be sure to have the original documents (no photocopies, faxes or scans) during your visa appointment.
The University of West Georgia requires financial documentation for the first year of study from each international applicant in the amount of: $32,000
All applicants must show proof of finances. Please obtain an official letter from the bank or financial institution in which you, and/or your sponsor, have available funds. The letter from the bank must:
- Be on official bank letterhead;
- Be in English;
- Be signed by a bank official;
- State the date the account was opened;
- The currency type;
- State the amount that is currently on the account;
- Be obtained and dated less than six months from the submission to UWG. (Letters older than six months are considered expired)
The organization (government or private) sponsoring you must provide a letter of sponsorship on official letterhead with the following information:
- Organization’s address;
- Telephone and fax numbers;
- Original signature and title of the responsible official;
- Your name
- Specific dollar amount
- Duration of the scholarship
