Freshmen are students who have never attended a college or university following their graduation from high school.

Prior Dual-Enrolled Students are students who have attended a college or university while in high school through the Dual Enrollment Program. 

Freshman students include Home Schooled students and Adult Learners (Aged 23 and Over).

Admissions Process and Requirements

FOR FALL 2023 - SUMMER 2025: UWG is waiving our SAT or ACT score requirement for Freshman applicants with an academic GPA of 3.2 or higher!

A freshman/prior dual-enrolled applicant must submit the following items before an admissions decision can be made:

  1. $40 non-refundable application fee (If mailing a paper application, please do not mail cash.)
  2. Official High School Transcripts sent directly from the high school to Office of Admissions
  3. Official SAT or ACT scores (Put us down as a school to automatically receive your scores!)

Check with your counselor to see if you are eligible for a fee waiver through NACAC, SAT or ACT. If so, email your completed and signed college application fee waiver to us at admiss@westga.edu, and we'll submit your application for you.

Freshman Index: 2040

The freshman index is a score determined by a calculation of a student's high school GPA and scores from either the SAT or ACT. UWG's minimum required freshman index is 2040.

All freshman applicants must satisfactorily complete the required subject units of the Required High School Curriculum (RHSC) or College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC)* and graduate with a RHSC/CPC diploma.

Academic GPA

Using the courses above, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will calculate an academic GPA from the applicant's official high school transcripts. The average GPA of the UWG freshman class is a 3.32.

Send Documents Early

It can take 1-2 weeks for our office to receive your transcripts and other documents. Therefore, we recommend you send all required missing documents/supplemental items at least one month before our deadline.

All required documents to determine admission eligibility MUST be received in the Office of Admissions no later than the established term application and document deadline date.

High School Transcripts

All high school transcripts must be official in order for you to receive an admission decision. You may mail your transcripts or drop them off in person, as long as they remain in the original, sealed envelope from the school. You may also send official transcripts through an electronic transcript service, such as Parchment, Scoir, or GA Futures. Please do not fax or email transcripts.

Test Scores

SAT and ACT scores must be sent officially through CollegeBoard.org or ACT.org.

Other Documents

The following items may be faxed, emailed, mailed, delivered in person, or uploaded to your application online: West in Thirty participation agreements, transfer conditional acceptance contracts, letters of transient permission, social security cards, permanent resident cards, lawful presence verification, judicial questionnaires, and application update forms.

To review your required missing documents & supplemental items, check when your documents have been received, or view your admission decision, login to your Begin West account.

Our office recommends that you check your application status at least 1-2 times a week after submitting your application. We will send you important information throughout the application process, so please check your email that you use to login to your Begin West account.
