The landscape of higher education is being transformed with the adoption of Artificial Intelligence. It has the ability to enhance faculty, staff, administrative, and student tasks and make processes more efficient and creative.
There are also significant challenges with the adoption of AI. Some results can be biased if AI questions are not carefully designed. Users will have to strictly abide by the University policies regarding data privacy to avoid the release of sensitive data. Students will need to be careful using AI to avoid academic dishonesty. Legal issues with copyrighted material are being discussed and acted upon by the federal government.
Many in our West Georgia community are eager to explore the immense opportunities that Artificial Intelligence can provide while protecting the legal and ethical issues involved in using AI.
UWG AI Overview
Artificial intelligence is everywhere. Everyone has access to the most powerful AI model in the world. It is the first technology since the internet that touches almost everything we do.
With the rise of Generative artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGpt, Copilot, and Gemini, the University of West Georgia is exploring the uses of AI to benefit everyone.
For example, AI can
- assist faculty with lesson planning and curriculum development, grading and feedback, generating quiz questions, and finding and developing classroom learning materials
- assist administrators and staff with researching student performance, developing draft policies, planning events, suggesting professional development, and managing email
- assist students with creating study guides, researching topics, help with problem solving, and tutoring

About Copilot
Copilot with Commercial Data Protection is Microsoft's AI-powered tool that leverages generative AI and large language models to provide real-time assistance and enhance productivity. The Copilot chat tool offers text, graphics, and code generation with commercial data protection. The tool delivers the same GPT 4.0 capabilities as other popular generative AI tools like ChatGPT without leveraging UWG data to train its model. Copilot also provides copyright protection and ensures that any content generated using the tool is the intellectual property of UWG. Please note that large language models (LLMs) may occasionally incorporate fabricated, incorrect, or biased information in its output. Copilot users must be prepared to independently verify all output for validity and applicability and be aware that hallucinations and bias may be present in the tool’s output.

Powered by Druid AI, Wolfie is an AI-powered virtual assistant and automation platform. Users can chat with Wolfie to obtain answers to questions and, if necessary, chat with a live agent for assistance with more complex issues. Wolfie will continue to evolve throughout 2025, adding functionality to further assist students with completing tasks such as making payments, applying for financial aid, registering for classes. etc. Wolfie will replace the various chat bots currently present on some of UWG's web pages, providing a single unified assistance platform and enhanced support for students.
