Dr. Warren Coker has been an active professional singer and vocal teacher for over thirty years, with professional opera and musical theater experience throughout the East Coast and Front Range of the United States. He has been a voice instructor with Appalachian State University, Shenandoah University and Conservatory of Music, Rider University, and the University of West Georgia. Early in his career, Warren was the first-place winner of the North Carolina NATS Advanced Graduate Men's category. With scholarships and fellowships to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Shenandoah University, he studied and performed the full spectrum of English, Italian, French, German, and Russian baritone repertoire. He has appeared in the title roles of The Marriage of Figaro, Gianni Schicchi, and Don Giovanni, and has performed professionally with the Aspen Opera Theater, Greensboro Opera, and Opera Theatre of the Rockies. He has performed as a baritone soloist for over thirty years, including engagements with Choralis in Washington D.C., Princeton Pro Musica at Princeton University, and singing as a professional chorister and cantor with the Cathedral Choir of St. John in the Wilderness, in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Coker extensively researched the traditional Ragas of Indian vocal music during his Master's degree, and his Doctorate research focused on songs of the Shenandoah Valley during the American Civil War. Warren loves teaching voices of all types and skill levels. He continues to share the joy of singing and the knowledge of vocal science that was shared with him at the Aspen Music Festival, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, The North Carolina School of the Arts, and Shenandoah University.
