Public Institutions of Higher Learning (IHLs) must offer in-state tuition and fees to all covered individuals with Post-9/11 GI Bill and Montgomery GI Bill - Active Duty (MGIB - AD) benefits in order for programs to remain approved for GI Bill benefits for terms beginning after July 1,2015. The MGIB program provides up to 36 months of education benefits. This education benefit may be used for certificate and degree programs here at UWG. Deficiency, remedial and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances. Benefits are payable for up to 10 years following the release from active duty. The MGIB-SR program may be available to soldiers who are members of the Selected Reserve. The Selected Reserve includes the Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Army Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Coast Guard Reserve, the Air National Guard, and the Army National Guard. This educational benefit can be used for degree and certificate programs here at UWG. Deficiency, remedial, and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances. Veterans and Active Duty Service Members are entitled to Vocational Rehabilitation Services and benefits if they meet all of the following conditions:

1. They have a compensable disability as a result of active service during or after WWII;
2. They have been or will be released, discharged, or retired from service under honorable conditions;
3. The Veterans Administration determines that they need rehabilitation services because there is an employment handicap;
4. Their period of eligibility has not expired.

Even if they do not meet the criteria above, they may still be eligible under certain circumstances to receive services to assist them to find and adjust to employment. This program is known as Chapter 31.

The DEA program provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of veterans who are totally and permanently disabled due to a service-related condition. This educational program offers up to 45 months of educational benefits. These benefits may be used for degree and certificate programs here at UWG. Deficiency, remedial, and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances. This program is commonly known as Chapter 35. The Tuition Assistance (TA) program provides financial assistance for voluntary off-duty educational programs in support of a service member's professional and personal self-development goals. All Active Duty Service Members (officers, warrant officers, enlisted) are authorized to participate in the TA program through their respective branches. This includes members of the Active Guard Reserve, as well as Reserve Component Service Members who are activated under U.S. Code Title 10 or Title 32.

TA is a benefit paid to eligible members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. TA is funded by the individual services. Each service has its own criteria for eligibility, obligated service, application process' and restrictions.

You may receive reimbursement for approved licensing and certification tests if you qualify for:

1. Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB); or
2. Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserves (MGIB-SR) (Public Law 109-163 enacted January 6, 2006); or
3. Reserve Education Assistance Program (REAP) (Public Law 109-163 enacted January 6, 2006); or
4. Dependents Educational Assistance (DEA).

The Georgia National Guard Service Cancelable Loan Program is funded by the State Legislature and is administered by the Georgia Student Finance Authority. The program was created to provide financial assistance toward the cost of attendance at a Georgia public or private college, technical college, or university located in the state. The program is for eligible members of the Georgia National Guard. The funds can be repaid through service cancellation.

Service Loans are available each academic year. This loan will cover resident tuition for all courses for which resident tuition is charged. Other non-repayable aid that covers resident tuition will be subtracted from the resident tuition and the Georgia National Guard award will cover the remaining resident tuition owed. Payment of all fees, special course fees, student activity and facility fees, assessment fees and others are the responsibility of the student.

Eligibility Requirements:

The student must be:

1. A legal resident of Georgia and in good military standing in the Georgia National Guard.
2. Enrolled at least half-time in college seeking an undergraduate degree.
3. Have not received a baccalaureate degree.
4. Not owe a refund on any Title IV program.
5. Attending an eligible college, university, or technical college within the State of Georgia.
6. Maintain satisfactory academic progress as required by Title IV.
7. Not be in default on a Title IV or State of Georgia educational loan.
8. Enrolled at least half-time as determined by the institution.
9. Not be receiving loan assistance for more than five academic years of study and not be an Audit or transient student.
