Sarah Hersh, M.M.
Part-Time Instructor of Music: CompositionSarah Hersh is an Atlanta-based composer and new music advocate who is particularly interested in promoting the music of women composers. Her work has been performed in the United States and Europe, as well as in Tanzania. Past commissions include works for Duo Neue Musik, Juxtatonal, Transient Canvas, Diagenesis, Height Difference Duo, Clarinets for Conservation, Daraja Music Initiative, the Florida Chamber Saxophonists, and others. Her work has also been performed by a variety of performers and ensembles, including Duo46, NANOWorks Opera Company, Out of Bounds Ensemble, Terminus Ensemble, the University of South Florida Wind Ensemble, and Band of Long Island, among others. Sarah has also had works premiered at the Wilderness Act Performance Series, the Atlanta Opera’s 24 Hour Opera Project, the soundSCAPE new music festival, the SoundNOW Festival, and the YInMn Festival.
As a co-founder and artistic director of Terminus Ensemble, Sarah is dedicated to presenting music by composers from the Atlanta area as well as the greater southeastern United States. Terminus was founded in 2011 and has performed dozens of works by local composers, as well as premiered several pieces the group commissioned.
Sarah holds a BA in music from Carleton College and her Master of Music degree in composition from the University of Florida, where her primary teachers were Phillip Rhodes and Paul Richards. She also studied with the wonderful Roger Ames. Sarah currently teaches composition at the University of West Georgia.
