Dr. J. Salvador Peralta is a Professor of Political Science at the University of West Georgia. He teaches courses on American Government, Comparative Politics, Democratic Theory, Democratic Erosion, Political Analysis, and Latin American Politics. His current research explores different interests in Latin America including democratic erosion, social investment policies, higher education politics, and the politics of poetry in the region.
His most recent scholarly publications and poetry translations have appeared in The Politicization of Social Investment in Latin America from Oxford University Press, The Midsouth Political Science Review, and The Birmingham Poetry Review.
His experiences living through dictatorship, war, and emigrating to the U.S. have informed his scholarly and teaching interests and inspired him to develop a course on what it means to be free, for which he won a National Endowment for Humanities (NEH) grant.
