Student Success

Matthew Stitz, a junior in the Physics program, is gaining hands-on research experience in quantum materials as he prepares for a career in advanced materials technology. His work in the lab has already led to three co‑authored publications through collaborations with researchers across multiple institutes.

Matthew has presented his research at conferences both within and beyond UWG, showcasing the technical skills he’s developed in cutting‑edge materials science. Recently, he was hired as a Metallurgy Lab Technician at Southwire in Carrollton, where he will apply the laboratory and research experience he built as a physics student.

Matthew’s journey highlights how a physics degree provides students with real research opportunities, practical lab skills, and pathways into advanced materials careers. Now entering his third year, we’re excited to see what he accomplishes next.
