Office of Legal Affairs
The Office of Legal Affairs is committed to the guiding principals of Accountability, Integrity, and Proffesionalism. We are also committed to providing timely and high-quality legal services to support the educational environment on behalf of the University of West Georgia (UWG).
To educate the University community as to the laws and regulations applicable to the University's operations in pursuit of its mission to minimize legal risks and costs, reduce litigation exposure, and ensure legal compliance, and to do so efficiently, reliably, and professionally.
This office reports directly to the President, but provides general legal assistance to the University community. Such assistance may include advice related to contracts, policy, financial transactions, grievances, copyright, and general issues related to safety and privacy.
The Policy at UWG website serves as the single source for the University and its constituencies to access governing policy, obtain guidance on drafting and coordinating policy, and to communicate with those who maintain policy.
Records Information Management Services manages and oversees University compliance with state and federal laws and regulations relating to the preservation and destruction of electronic and paper information.
The University of West Georgia has designated an Open Records Officer for the University, to whom all Open Records Act requests should be made. The Open Records Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Georgia Open Records Act and coordinating the University’s search, retrieval, and disclosure of records pursuant to open records requests, subpoenas, and requests for production of documents for non-party.
