The Distance Education Certified Trainer Program is a 3-month professional program offered completely online. The program's goal is to enable instructional designers and distance learning support personnel to better prepare the faculty and staff with whom they work.

Program Content

The certificate program comprises eight online modules. Each module lasts 2-3 weeks and will incorporate conceptual knowledge into practical learning experiences. The program offers 8.7 Continuing Education Units (CEU's) which is equivalent to 87 hours worth of instruction. Modules include:

  • Distance Education Basics
  • Technologies of Distance Education
  • Teaching and Training Adult Learners
  • Understanding Faculty in Higher Education
  • Best Practices in Training/Developing Presence
  • Creative Approach to Overcoming Training barriers
  • Evaluation of Training Programs
  • Final Project

Course Leadership

The program, offered by the University of West Georgia, is a learner-centered course based on researched techniques and proven methodologies. Course modules will be led by instructors, researchers, and administrators experienced and recognized in preparing distance faculty. Course participants will also be able to expand their knowledge through interaction with other participants currently practicing in the field.
