Mary Huffstead, Ph.D., LPC, NCC, CPCS
Assistant Professor of Counselor EducationMary Huffstead, Ph.D., LPC, NCC, CPCS is a Assistant Professor of Counselor Education. Dr. Huffstead is the Program Coordinator for Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. Dr. Huffstead obtained her B.S. in Psychology from Indiana State University, M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Auburn University, and Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Practice from Georgia State University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a National Certified Counselor (NCC), and a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS). Dr. Huffstead's clinical experience includes multicultural counseling, play therapy, group counseling, and family counseling. Her clinical specialty includes working with the multiracial population, women and children who experience domestic violence, sexual assault and/or home insecurity. She is well-grounded in both the multicultural and advocacy competencies within the field of counseling. Her research interest encompasses multicultural training, multiracial identity development, and issues concerning those identifying as LGBTQ and living with a chronic illness and/or disability. She has published peer-reviewed articles and presented at the state, regional, and national level. She is a dedicated leader and volunteer within the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision.
