Chris McDowell

ThenJohn Christopher McDowell "Chris," grew up in rural South Georgia. After working in civil and electrical engineering for 10 years, he changed careers. Earning a Master's degree in Communication focused on Online and Organizational Communication from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Chris then made his way to Carrollton, Georgia.He taught Communication classes at UWG (Public Speaking, Media Culture & Society, and Play and Technology). Chris created the Annual Gibson Persuasive Public Speaking Contest, created a student viewing lab, and hosted the Georgia Communication Association annual conference during his five years at UWG. He also won an award for summer research abroad and participated in the mentor/mentee program for Distance Learning.For the following seven years, Chris worked at West Georgia Technical College, teaching six classes a semester on 3 campuses, advising, providing registration assistance, doing peer reviews, developing online and hybrid content, helping to found the Performing Arts Club, directing plays, volunteering as a Relay for Life Team Captain, and of course, doing committee work.NowOccasionally, Chris does contract Communications and Marketing work, such as a year-long position as the Communications and Community Development Manager for the Cotton Mill Farmers Market and other contract work for local business owners.Most recently Chris was back at UWG as a temporary Web Specialist building the rebranded website as part of the Web Revolution Team. He loves his work and duties, he loves helping people, and he enjoys the UWG spirit. Chris also owns his own local Handmade Soap and Bath Products company, Enchanted Earth Gifts. He crafts all the products by hand, with the help of his wife Shelly and two sons, Freedom and Khan. NextChris is seeking a permanent position and enthusiastically looks forward to his next career challenge.
