Russell Crutchfield, Ed.D.

Dr. Crutchfield began his tenure at the University of West Georgia (UWG) in 2016 and currently serves as Chief of Staff and Associate Vice President. In this role, he acts as a chief policy advisor to the president of the university, manages the administrative functions and operations of the President’s Division, oversees the university’s government and community relations endeavors at the local, state, and federal levels, and serves in the administrative and operations leadership role over the historic UWG Newnan campus. He also manages the economic development activities for the university. Dr. Crutchfield brings over fifteen years of executive-level government relations and operations experience to the position and holds a steadfast commitment to transforming the lives of students by working to foster personal and professional growth opportunities rooted in public service for the future leaders of our communities.

Dr. Crutchfield brings a diverse professional background in political, governmental and higher education leadership to the role of Chief of Staff and Associate Vice President. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH), and was elected board secretary in April, 2021, and Vice Chairman of the Board in August of 2022. He also currently serves on the board of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the Boys and Girls Club of Newnan board, and is a member of the Newnan Rotary Club. His previous professional experience includes executive leadership positions with several Georgia state agencies, including the Department of Community Health (DCH), Department of Labor (DOL), and the Department of Public Health (DPH).

Dr. Crutchfield is an alumnus and two-time graduate of UWG and holds a Bachelor’s degree in political science and a Master’s degree in public administration. He attained his Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in Leadership and Learning in Organizations from the Peabody College at Vanderbilt University.
