The University of West Georgia went “Out of This World” recently in celebrating Homecoming 2019! Even before gameday, intergalactic events filled the calendars of students, faculty, staff, alumni and the west Georgia community.
Traditional activities such as the Wear Red Get Fed event and Glow-in-the-Dark skate party kept students entertained on Thursday, and the community joined to watch the Glow Parade that same night.
After the annual Presidential 5K Friday, guests wet their whistles at the Alumni and Friends Beer Tasting. Speaking of friends, many gathered to cheer on the Wolves at the annual Chicken and Waffles Alumni Tailgate.
At halftime during the big game against West Florida, Aaron Ashton and Ashley Dorsey were crowned Homecoming 2019 King and Queen.
In addition to the homecoming festivities, UWG also celebrated its 37th annual A Day on Thursday, Oct. 17, with a special A Day event at UWG Newnan on Oct. 16. Events for A Day began in September with the Kickoff Soiree and culminated in a Victory Celebration at the Alumni House. Overall, $586,875 was raised, and Rashaad Hammonds and Sydney Francis were named Mr. and Miss A Day.
Closing out the week of Out of This World homecoming events, the Starry Night Presidential Scholarship Gala raised $81,696 in funding for need-based scholarships.
Thanks to everyone who came to celebrate this dazzling display of UWG spirit and pride. Check out photos from the week below!
