Ihor Pidhainy

I am a graduate of the University of Toronto, and have come to live in Georgia and work at the University of West Georgia. I love the academic world, but also enjoy traveling, meeting people and visiting museums.

As a scholar I am primarily focused on China, but have interests that run from East Asia to Europe and cover a wide range of topics. In my dissertation, Yang Shen and the Nature of Travel Writing, I looked at how a Ming dynasty scholar made use of his travel writing to record his exile. Since then I have worked on Chinese biographical writing, organizing a conference on biographical at the University of British Columbia and co-editing a volume on biography in East Asia. My current book project is a biographical study of Yang Shen.

Asian Studies has been a passion of mine since graduate school, and I am so happy that West Georgia now has an Asian Studies Program (check out our webpage!). If you have any questions about this program, please don't hesitate to contact me.
