The Creative Writing Program offers courses and workshops in poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and screenwriting at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Our award-winning faculty provide quality teaching, individual conferencing, and initiation into the world of publishing and literary endeavors. Students may choose to minor in creative writing at the undergraduate level or seek an MA in English with a creative capstone project (in the form of a series of poems, a novella, or a collection of short stories or essays.
Graduates of the Creative-Writing Program have gone on to graduate writing programs at the University of North Texas, University of Alabama, The Ohio State University, University of Florida, Northern Michigan University, University of Miami, Texas Tech University, and many others. They also occupy teaching positions at Marshall University, the University of North Texas, and at many local and regional high schools. In addition, the program fosters a lively literary reading series, which has brought in world-renown authors including Julia Alvarez, Yusef Komunyakaa, Tim O’Brien, Parneshia Jones, and countless others.
